STURGEON BAY - Forty-eight works of art by artists from six counties in eastern Wisconsin go on display to the public when the Miller Art Museum opens its 43rd Juried Annual exhibit Saturday, Nov. 10.

The public is invited to meet the artists at the opening reception, scheduled for 3 to 4:30 p.m.Saturday, Nov. 10, with eight cash awards totaling $1,500 for the exhibit announced at 3:30.

Each year, artists ages 18 and older residing in Door, Kewaunee, Brown, Manitowoc, Oconto and Sheboygan counties are able to submit up to two works in two-dimensional media to the jury for this competitive exhibit.

More than 180 works of art created by more than 100 artists were submitted, from which 48, created by 38 artists, were chosen. The selected pieces offer a wide variety of media and subjects: oil, cold wax, watercolor and pastel paintings; collage; digital art; prints; photographs; and fiber work, used to depict abstract imagery, landscapes and the human figure.

Jurors for this year's exhibit were Angela Johnson of Madison, Jason Houge of Green Bay and Barbara Shakal of Sturgeon Bay.

“There is a strong tradition of art in the Door Peninsula, so it was no surprise to see so much work made with a high level of technical skill,” Houge wrote. “For the artist, creating a work of art is all about storytelling. A work of art is the media in which the artist reveals something to the viewer — a conduit for communicating an idea, a feeling, some truth or even a lie.”

Exhibiting artists are Gail Ann Anderson, Sharon Auberle, Rick Brawner, Donna Brown, Janine Beuchner, W. Joseph Christiansen, Martha Coaty, Luke Collins, Sharon Delvoye, Joan Emmett, Pam Flanders, Tom Friese, Faith Frykman, Richard A. Geudtner, Mitchel Heinrichs, Susan Hoffman, Frances Holt, Thomas Jordan, J Jorns, Matt Kapinos, Andrea Kinsey-Jauquet, Brigitte Kozma, Stephanie Lord, Elizabeth Maltman, Mara Manning, Sandra Martinez, Steven Monske, Rolf Olson, Brian Pier, Brian Pirman, Melissa Resch, Susan Reynolds-Smith, Kim Rosploch, Dianne Saron, Marilyn Stasiak, Hermke Timm, Patricia A.
